Most Interesting Methods of Saving Money
October 27th, 2007 | by rocketc |Check out comment #17 on this post by Nickel. His post started out as an average, run-of-the-mill post and then it took on a life of it’s own in the comments. It is worth your time.
A Penny Closer endorses the technique known as “if it’s yellow, let it mellow” on this tightwad Wednesday post. My family uses this technique to save water once in a while when there are no guests in the house. However, I recommend just biting the bullet and flushing after you have eaten asparagus or if you are going to clip your toenails over the toilet. Fishing expeditions for the clippers in the porcelain throne are bad enough, without the added complication of “yellow water”.
The Digerati Life submits a money saving technique that could leave you smelling a bit rank and your hair very, very shiny.
Your mileage may vary in using the money-saving techniques above. But speaking of mileage, I’ve Paid For this Twice Already, details how much it costs just to drive a car. We are currently working on reducing driving costs in our family. We recently became a single car family after having two cars for our first few years of marriage. It is certainly less convenient, but it forces us to plan our trips in advance, thus helping us to consolidate them and use less gasoline. Furthermore, we do not have to pay for insurance, oil changes, repairs or car washes for the second vehicle. I have walked or ridden my bike quite a bit – although these options are going to be difficult in a month or two, due to the weather. On days that my family needs the car, they drive me to work.
I also try take the car to work as much as possible so that my wife is stuck in the house and can’t travel anywhere to spend money. [I know I'm going to be on the street soon.]

That’s funny. Yeah – I definitely don’t recommend flushing less when guests are around. It isn’t an attractive look.
Thanks for mentioning my tightwad post!
