AmEx Business Gold Comes Through
November 8th, 2007 | by rocketc |For several months this year, the American Express Gold card has been offering 25,000 bonus points if you sign up and make one purchase. This promo has ended. If it gets reinstated, you will find out here first.
Anyway, I acquired the card, made my purchase and used the points for a round-trip airline ticket. I am most likely going to cancel the card before the yearly fee is due, but I keep it in my wallet because it looks cool and cometimes I do use it for business expenses. I am careful to pay off the balance every month.
Yesterday, my wife called from a gas station to say that our only family vehicle was having problems starting. She was there with three children: 4, 3 and 7 months. . . I vaguely remembered that the customer service rep had mentioned something about free roadside assistance when I signed up. I called the number on the back of the card and asked about roadside assistance. He said the benefit was for the first $50 of towing costs. I told them where the vehicle was located, where I wanted it towed and it was all done in less than an hour. My out of pocket cost was $13.47. If this happens three more times, I’ll pay for the annual fee.
This is consistent with the service that I receive from American Express. They may not be accepted everywhere (although this is quickly changing), but their customer service is outstanding, their credit limits are the highest and their online interface might be better than Chase.
Your favorite card might be different (mine is Chase Freedom), but I recommend keeping at least one Amex card in your wallet or purse. Choose from these options and experience a great product:
