Small Savings on Contact Solution
November 18th, 2007 | by rocketc |I wear corrective lenses. Someday I would like to spring for lazer eye surgery, but I haven’t focused on saving for it yet. I order a year’s supply of 1 month disposable contacts and make them last about two years. At my age, my presciption is not changing very quickly and I am careful to rub/wash the contacts every night. I have been doing this for almost ten years with no ill effects.
The only area where I was spend too much on eyecare is solution - the brand that I use costs $5.95 for a 16 oz. bottle. This purchase typically comes out of the portion of the budget that my wife oversees. About six months ago, she told me that she was sick of purchasing contact solution at six bucks a crack and that she was going to start buying the generic brand for $2 per bottle. I agreed to the switch on the condition that I go back to my old solution if I had any trouble. The generic brand has worked fine and I don’t anticipate switching back anytime soon.
Be on the lookout around the house for products where a generic substitute might be adequate and could save you a bundle of cash.
